{image_1}From a pool of 45 applications, venture firm Momentum has announced the top 25 technology startups vying for a spot in its 2010 program.

Launched last spring, Momentum is a partnership among The Windquest Group, Pomegranate Studios and Lakeshore Advantage. One of the group’s goals is to create a change in Michigan’s investment culture to embrace nontraditional startups.

“I began Momentum last year to discover new startup ideas in Michigan and keep our creative capital here,” Rick DeVos, CEO of Pomegranate Studios and the program’s founder, said in a statement this past December kicking off the 2010 program.

Momentum will select up to five of these finalists for a 12-week “boot camp,” which will culminate in a “Demo Day” for the participants to pitch their ideas to potential investors, according to Momentum’s Web site.

The applicants were required to submit video pitches, which Momentum is working to post online in the coming days.

Next, these 25 finalists must create a 5 minute slide presentation that answers questions such as the problem they are alleviating, the solution to that problem, the technology behind the solution, their business model, and what they hope to gain from Momentum. That presentation is due by March 8, and in-person interviews will be held at the end of March.

“We are working to make Momentum 2010 a stronger, more rounded program,” Bill Holsinger-Robinson, president of Pomegranate Studios and director of Momentum, said in the statement. “Everything from our application process to our programming has been redesigned to turn these startups into viable, profitable companies.”
